Who does God speak to?

A few weeks ago I had quite a few questions I needed answers for. Questions that I needed God to answer. Questions about what God really thinks about certain things that go on in life. And what I didn’t want was someone’s opinion or the Christian answer; I wanted to really hear from God myself. So I just began to ask and seek. Being really honest with God about these issues I was wondering about. I’ll come back to this in just a moment.

Now I would like to fast forward to last Saturday. I was at a home group and someone started talking about those who hear from God and so I was really interested. He said that there are certain people that hear directly from the Lord just like they are talking to him on a phone that reaches up to heaven. These people hear and talk to God all the time and they are so incredible. Pretty much he was saying they are modern day prophets and that he knew many of them and it is so awesome that God speaks to them. As I sat there, a few things struck me, first, this gentleman was looking at it all wrong and he is really missing it. God can and will speak to people and some more that others but it isn’t because those people are better or because God wants to speak to them more. God wants to speak to everyone but in order for that communication to take place it needs to come from both ways. These people who “hear from God” take time to converse, ask and listen to Him. And the great thing about God is He is really creative in how He does things, so when He does speak to us He does it in many different ways. He does it in a way that you and I can know that it is Him speaking.

So back to the questions I had, yes, God did answer my questions in a powerful way. He spoke to me during my prayer time, He backs it up with His Word and He even confirmed it through people I don’t know. How awesome is that. And next time I have questions, most likely He’ll speak to me much differently. So be encouraged and know that if you need to hear from Him that He will speak to you just ask.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5
