Here we go again! Time to vote and exercise that privilege. I’m grateful to live in a country where we have a say (very small one but none the less) in what goes on and that we can vote for the people that we want to govern us. I have to be honest though, I always get grieved as I’m talking with some other Christians or I see some (not all) their postings on FB about this very thing. Not because they have voted because, I do feel that is important, but rather, if the majority of the vote is democratic we are doomed and it is the end of the world or if it is republican. some how we are saved, rescued and have our country is back on track. That grieves me! Seriously, I have such a hard time with that. For one, where does our hope really lie and whom does it rest in? I’m sorry but if all of our government was republican, I’m almost sure, in fact I am sure, that we would not be saved and there would still be major issues. The fact is, there are many dishonest people that govern under the label of republican. They won’t keep their promises and they don’t always have our best intentions. Why? Not because they are republican or democrat but mere men and women like you and I. I love what the psalmist says in Psalm 20:7
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
Granted, I know that in our current day and age, we don’t use chariots and horses like they did back then, but I think we could definitely fill that in with things of our day. Some trust in their jobs, their bank accounts, themselves and their own efforts, in other people, in our government and the list is endless. But we need to trust in the name of the Lord our God and that’s it! He alone is where our hope should lie. I want to get this with all that I am. I’m guilty of putting my trust in stuff and people besides God. The Psalmist goes on to say that those things collapse and fall but those who trust in God will rise and stand upright. In the end, there is only One who will stand and His name is Faithful and True.
I just want to say one more thing that I really think about when its election time. God is in no way political in the American sense of the word. He is not a politician. Yes, He does govern and rule, but He is always fair, always just and He doesn’t fit into our political system. He is beyond our human ways of running things. When the Jews wanted to be ruled by a King it wasn’t God’s way but He gave them what they wanted. He wanted to be the One to take care of them. Because when God governs, He does it in love with always our best in mind. When Jesus was here on earth, the Jews wanted Him to over through the Romans, rule and set them free from the oppression. Listen, that isn’t such a bad request, but Jesus was so clear that this was not why He came. He was about His Father’s business and an entirely different Kingdom. He came to set the captives free. not from a Roman oppression, but from something much BIGGER, sin and death. In return He gives us real life.
A day is coming when Jesus will come back and at that moment every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is rightful LORD. He will rule and govern in everyway. I can’t wait for that. All things will submit and be under Him.
So please vote but as you do, prayerfully consider whom it is you are voting for knowing that they are just mere men and women. Pray for them as they govern and that they will make Godly decisions. Be careful never to put your hope in them (or anything else), they will fail. Remember that God isn’t a politician. He is God and He is about something entirely different. If you are one of His, lets not be quick to be political (republican or democrat) but be about His business.
I love this song. I believe it goes along well will what I’ve been sharing. It really spoke to me about my hope and my trust being in the Solid Rock and how all other ground is sinking sand. Be sure to listen! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQgD_Wg9DG4
